We believe that playing games, folding paper, solving puzzles, and creating are great ways to build engagement and positive feelings about mathematics while deepening mathematical thinking.
We value caring learning spaces where people feel welcome to try new things and make glorious mistakes and missteps. That is where the learning takes place!
In addition to speaking at conferences, we meet with groups in workshops and seminars (single-day and ongoing visits). Our goal is to guide educators in experiencing the joy of mathematics through play and “aha” moments to develop and strengthen a positive mathematical mindset. Educators are better able to pass along that pure mathematical joy to their students once they have experienced it themselves.
Whether games, paper folding, puzzles, and mathematical art are used as a brain break or as a conceptual lesson, educators will be sure to reach each student in the classroom with these activities. These activities help to build relationships as well as mathematical meaning.
Our deep-dive workshops and partial day seminars provide participants with freely available resources designed to encourage mathematical exploration and conversation. The promoted activities spark ideas for educators to assist their students in cultivating spatial sense and number sense.
In short, we explore how to notice, wonder, and engage in mathematical moments. These are the first steps in developing an appreciation of mathematics. Participants in our in-person or online workshops and seminars will have opportunities to take risks, question, and be mathematically curious in a caring learning space.
We specialize in consulting about mathematics education, K to 12. We also have expertise in all levels of administration, with specialties including timetabling, scheduling, and organizing and delivering face-to-face and virtual professional development.
Additionally, we are available to work alongside teachers in the classroom, modeling mathematical play.
The majority of our online resources feature G Suite such as Google Meet, Jamboard, Slides, and Docs. For those individuals and/or families not familiar with these tools, we suggest you take a look at the Google for Education Tech Toolkit for Families and Guardians.
If you are looking for some individual (or family or group) coaching for using these tools, we recommend you contact Phil Taylor who is a Google for Education Certified Trainer. As a Google Certified Educator and Google Certified Trainer, Phil is able to provide hands-on sessions/workshops using the free for education “cloud-based”, G Suite for Education platform. Resources and G Suite for Education workshops Phil has conducted in the past can be found on his G Trainer Site.
